A District of Character

What does it mean to be an Springfield Bulldog?

Character Counts of Illinois, @IllinoisCharacter, recently recognized the Springfield ISD as the first recipient to be awarded a School District of Character.

The size of our school district provides our students many advantages. Our students have the advantage of a strong literacy and math curriculum that has resulted in an increase in the percent of students scoring in the advanced proficiency range on the Illinois Tests. Students have rigorous and relevant learning opportunities in science, technology, engineering and mathematics at every level of their education. Our students experience Project Lead the Way (STEM) in core curriculum areas as well as clubs after school. A partnership with Indian Hills offers dual credit opportunities. Local businesses provide our students experiences that cannot be replicated in the classroom.

The Springfield Schools educational advantages far exceed what smaller area schools can offer. But one of the most important characteristics of our district has been recognized by Character Counts of Illinois--character. At Springfield Schools, we prioritize what it means to be a Bulldog by modeling and teaching every student to be a respectful individual, compassionate role model and a responsible community member. As a result of our efforts, we have created a sense of belonging for each and every student.

The compassion and support demonstrated by students and staff for each other is reflected daily in our classrooms, hallways and extra-curricular activities. Students who attend an Springfield school can expect to be held to a high academic standard as well as a high standard of character. We feel honored to be recognized by Character Counts of Illinois for the character of our students and staff.
