Teacher Professional Training Provides our Students an Advantage

District leadership thoughtfully plans teacher learning and collaboration opportunities. EMS and OHS core teachers continue to gain knowledge in instructional practices that enhance our curriculum. Through collaboration, teachers become more knowledgeable with applying these practices that engage students in critical thinking and complex communication, while increasing student accountability and productivity. Elementary core teachers are organized into grade level teams to continue growing, learning and collaborating with colleagues in order to successfully implement the district’s Iowa Core Literacy and Math curriculum.

Regardless of the content, all teachers are engaged in learning throughout the year ensuring our students experience a learning advantage in a safe environment where each and every student feels a sense of belonging. Providing our students an advantage over all others is challenging work. It requires all of us to be continuous learners and apply new learning to our practices. Through hard work, belief and a growth mindset, all Ottumwa achievement goals will be accomplished. Our progress is evident in our increased graduation rate (89%), assessment scores, and 2014 District of Character Award.
