Children's Author Dan Gemeinhart Returns to Mission View Elementary School for Homecoming Event

Celebrated children's author Dan Gemeinhart spent 13 years as a librarian at Mission View Elementary School. The New York Times-bestselling author of middle-grade novels lives in Cashmere and has published six books, with his seventh to be released this spring. Recently, Dan returned to Mission View for a joyful homecoming event sponsored by the Mission View PTO and coordinated by librarian Jennifer Christensen.

“During library specialist time, students have been learning about Mr. Gemeinhart and the importance of literacy and learning. Mr. Gemeinhart came to Mission View in 2021 to record messages to our students and read from his books.  his past week, in preparation for his visit, the staff and students have enjoyed hearing these messages,” explained Jennifer.

Throughout the day, Dan interacted with every grade level. He began the morning by reciting the Mission View pledge of success over the loudspeaker and joined students for an all-school "read-in". Dan, along with Mission View Principal Jeff Jaeger and Assistant Principal Donna Limon, walked the hallways during the all-school read-in, fist-bumping and encouraging students, many of whom were reading Dan's books. He spent the rest of the day presenting at assemblies for grades 1-5, with the theme of never giving up and encouraging kids to be their own heroes. Students had the opportunity to meet Dan one-on-one, get his autograph, or have their books signed. The day ended with a workshop for 4th and 5th graders on the process of writing a story, including setting, character development, and plot.
